Stay at De Blauwe Haan in Drenthe

This nature campsite is located right next to Holtingerzand nature reserve. But this time I won't be camping. I get to spend the night in one of the two Glamping Domes found on the site. With a view from bed on the forest. What an experience!

Arriving at the campsite, we are welcomed by owner Janneke. She explains to us how to get to the Glamping Dome, passing the boat and turning off after the chalets. This reflects well what can be found at the campsite, a combination of camping and special accommodation.

The Domes come into view and how beautiful they are. In the Dome you will find a kitchen, a double bed and a bunk bed. There is also a toilet, just no hot water. To shower, you go to the modern sanitary building on the campsite. Where you can enjoy a hot shower. There is also an outdoor kitchen with bbq and wok.

The Glamping Dome is therefore equipped with almost all conveniences. Perfect for a weekend away for two or with a friend. You can cook here but there are also fine restaurants in the area. During the holidays you can get fresh rolls at the campsite, outside the holidays you have to depend on the surrounding villages for your groceries.

The campsite is the perfect starting point for hiking. Right next to the beautiful Holtingerzand, where you can walk around the moor. We walked there and back to the moor, just under 2 kilometres.

In addition, camping de Blauwe Haan is near Dwingeloord, where you can walk for hours. Also plan a visit to the sheepfold. On the sign by the barn, they indicate when the sheep herd leaves in the morning and returns at the end of the afternoon. You can also do this at the sheepfold near the Holtingerveld. I always find it a beautiful sight to see the sheep leave or come in with the shepherd. It is always fun to go and have a look at the flock.

We had dinner at Ludiek in Havelte. A beautiful restaurant where you can enjoy a surprise menu with local ingredients.

We also had dinner at the Bospub in Dwingeloo, a super nice place to enjoy a snack or a drink on the edge of the forest.

So a weekend at Camping de Blauwe Haan is quickly filled, there are plenty of activities and you can take lovely walks from the campsite.

It is great to come back to the Glamping Dome, surrounded by nature but still with all the comforts you could wish for. Or to just sit here for an afternoon with a book or try spotting the squirrels in the adjacent forest. Enjoy the silence and nature with the luxury of the Dome.
