The sun peeks through the trees, a bird sings at full volume and the scent of the outdoors dances through the door. Can you already feel the peace coursing through your body? That's what nature can do to you. And you know... I heartily grant it to you, to take a break from the busy life and recharge yourself with positive energy all over again.
Therefore, in this blog I tip you off to my five favourite forest cottages and cabins you can rent if you want to get away from everyday life. From an off-the-grid forest cabin to a giant villa in nature.
1. Spend the night in Bush Box - Varendreef 10, Brasschaat
Bush Box is located just across the border with Belgium, in the Brasschaat/Kalmthout region. It is a beautiful domain totalling one hectare, where you can have a great time. Will you go for a tiny house or opt for more comfort in the tree tent? Both are possible at Bush Box. There is also a sauna to get totally zen.
Do you feel like going out? Take a walk in one of Flanders' most beautiful nature reserves, Kalmthoutse Heide. An area where various landscapes alternate. Or visit the Arboretum Kalmthout, one of the best and most varied plant collections in continental Europe. You will find roses, azaleas, magnolias, Japanese maples and more. All in all, a particularly beautiful location where you can completely unwind and enjoy nature.
2. Holiday home Klein Wispelheem - Kattenburgerweg 2A, Zuurdijk
In the opposite wind direction, in the Groningen village of Zuurdijk, you rent a comfortable and sustainable forest cottage made entirely of larch wood. Enjoy the view over the large garden from the covered private terrace. Can you see yourself enjoying the sunshine? It's also great to stay in in the winter, because inside the cottage there is a wood-burning stove you can fire up yourself.
There is plenty to do around the Klein Wispelheem holiday home. For instance, the Houwerzijl Tea Factory is within cycling distance, where you can drink the tastiest and most elaborate types of tea. But you can also pop into the Tea Museum there. Or head to the picturesque fishing village of Zoutkamp where you can check out monumental locks.
3. Bosvilla Hygge - Vennenpad 19 01, Nunspeet
The next place I want to recommend is Bosvilla Hygge in Nunspeet. A beautiful and atmospheric nature house designed by an architect in Danish style. It is made of high-quality, ecological and healthy materials from natural and renewable sources. If you ask me, this forest cottage really is the perfect place to completely unwind and enjoy nature.
Of course, there are plenty of things to experience and see in the vicinity of your coach cabin. Walk the barefoot path of the Kijktuinen or rent a bike and explore the nature of the Veluwe. But I would also advise you to completely relax, unwind and not have to do anything. Really take this moment for yourself.
4. Loof Cabin - Koekoekstraat 64, Hoeselt
This luxurious eco-cabin does not stand directly on the ground, but on wooden poles. The Loof Cabin features large glass windows overlooking trees on one side and an open field on the other. So if you are looking for a combination of security and an open view, you are more than right here. The organisation has deliberately chosen not to install WIFI or cable TV. So you can really recharge, cocoon, get inspired or pay attention to each other. You don't have to worry about getting cold either, as the Jotul wood-burning stove will keep you well warm.
Loof Cabin is located in a private deciduous forest in Hoeselt (Belgium) and is made for two people. From the cabin, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes along beautiful orchards and hills. For example, opt for the Blossom route in spring, a 38-kilometre cycling route. If you need stimuli and the inhabited world, you can drive to Hasselt in 25 minutes and to Maastricht in 35 minutes.
5. Hutje op de Veluwe - Centrumweg 2, Epe
My very last tip is the 'Hutje' on the Veluwe in Epe. I put 'hut' in brackets on purpose, because it is not that small. It is a beautiful detached house where six people can stay. The nature house is located on a private forest plot of no less than 2,100 square metres. A huge piece of nature that you don't have to share with anyone. Perhaps only with your company and some birds, hares, rabbits, hedgehogs and squirrels. Hutje op de Veluwe is sustainable because it uses no gas, but is electrically heated with green electricity. Of course, that makes us happy, doesn't it?
Het Hutje op de Veluwe has beautiful surroundings. Indeed, it is located on the edge of the nature reserves the Wisselse Veen, Tongerenen estate and the Crown Estates. This forest house is also close to Paleis het Loo, the Veluwse Bron and Cannenburgh Castle. If you choose to have a bite to eat outside, there is plenty of choice within walking distance. So it really is a suitable place to sit back and relax or just go out.
I hope my tips have sparked your interest. All the forest cabins are definitely worth renting. Which one is your favourite? Be sure to let us know on Instagram by tagging @honeyguide.nl/en and using #heyhoneyguide.
