Before I discovered the Buitenhuys family cottages, I had never been to the Venhuizen area. But these cottages are definitely worth the drive from Breda. Hidden in a meadow behind the little dike of Venhuizen is cottage no. 9. This hidden gem is the perfect cottage to spend a special night in Noord-Holland or to work at a unique location.
Team Honeyguide did not let the latter say twice, packed its bags and enjoyed three days of relaxed workaction at Family Buitenhuys. Upon entering, we were immediately positively surprised by the cool interior, the carefully decorated space and the nice outdoor area overlooking the meadow and the dike. We are happy to share this experience with you!
Designed with care - Bigger than we thought
Upon entering, it was immediately clear that the owners of cottage no. 9 have put a lot of love and energy into the construction and decoration. Not only does it look great but everything has been thought of. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you need to make delicious fresh coffee, as well as pans and knives so you can cook for yourself.
Between the two bedrooms is the shower, which can be separated with wooden sliding doors. In the rear bedroom there is a large bathtub overlooking the meadow. We will definitely make use of this during our stay!
The living room has a comfortable sofa and a large dining room table, which is also nice to work at. The record player provides an atmospheric melody in the background and on the table is a brochure with tips for the area.
Enjoying a cup of coffee in the garden - In the spotlight
The cottage has a large outdoor area. A slide and wooden tepee tent have been thought of for children. There is also a picnic table, a cosy seating area and you can relax on one of the sun beds. And all this while looking out over a vast meadow and a dyke illuminated by sunbeams.
As I sit down on the sofa with a cup of coffee, I feel a wave of relaxation wash over me. What a wonderful place to spend a few days and explore the area of North Holland from.
Bathing with a view - Relaxing in warm water
Once the working day is over, it's time to relax. As the bath fills up, I light the outdoor heater and enjoy a beautiful sunset. The birds whistle happily to us and through the meadow we see hares jumping through the sand in the distance.
After choosing a reading book, I sink into the warm water of the large bath. Soon, the book turns out to be superfluous because with such a beautiful view and music playing in the background, you don't need much more.
Old fortified towns of Enkhuizen and Hoorn - On a local adventure
When you come to stay in one of the Family Buitenhuys cottages in North Holland, you will explore several old fortified towns. Enkhuizen and Hoorn are a stone's throw away and both are unique for different reasons.
Tip: Around Venhuizen, fruit growers and farms have roadside stalls selling local produce. Take a rural tour and buy fresh fruit and herbs along the way.
Nostalgic Enkhuizen
I would describe Enkhuizen as historic, nostalgic and atmospheric. Stroll through narrow streets, enjoy a cold drink on one of the terraces at the harbours or stroll along the sea wall while spotting sailing ships in the distance.
Tip: Would you like to dine in an idyllic spot and eat delicious fresh fish? At Vishandel van der Veen you will be seated by the water in an old street. Here you can enjoy a beautiful view in peace and quiet.
Watery Hoorn
Hoorn breathes history but is also a city with great shops and coffee shops. Lunch at 30ML and enjoy delicious sandwiches and salads. Or spot beautiful plants and cute gifts at Maison Mien. Walk to the main tower in the Havenkwartier and enjoy the sun on the jetty.
Special stays in North Holland - On a budget
A unique stay does not have to be expensive. In cottage no. 9, you stay with a maximum of 4 people and a two-night stay comes to €60 per person. So for just €30 per person per night, you can stay in a unique and relaxing place!
Special overnight stays in no. 7 - A look at the neighbours
During our stay, we were also allowed to take a look at the neighbours. The Buitenhuys family cottages are in Venhuizen in North Holland and Schaijk in North Brabant. Soon, two new cottages in Zeeland will also appear, which we are very curious about. The cottages in Venhuizen are on a small recreation park with several tiny houses. At the recreation park, you enjoy peace and quiet and there are no facilities.
The most unique feature of cottage no. 7 is the glass greenhouse. The greenhouse has a stove that we could see ourselves sitting in front of in winter under a warm blanket. This inspiring place is also very suitable for relaxation or as a location for a work action.
At Family Buitenhuys, you will certainly experience what it is like to spend a special and relaxing night in Noord-Holland. Explore the surroundings or completely unwind at the cottage.
Love,
