Terra Wolde, the most extraordinary country hotel in the Netherlands

At this special country hotel, you not only enjoy a special night's stay but are pampered from the moment you step onto the property. From the greenhouse, where the kitchen of the outdoor restaurant is located, come cold drinks and beautifully prepared platters of snacks. We get a taste of the dinner and it promises to be quite delicious.

During a tour of the grounds, we walk past beautiful accommodations including the cosy forest house, atmospheric bell tents and yurts in various sizes. At the back of the grounds, our cosy cottage appears among the trees. We stay in 'the Smallest'. This is the newest accommodation at outdoor hotel Terra Wolde, but as it turns out; small is beautiful.

The Kleinste has certainly not skimped on comfort. There is a big bed with fine mattresses and lovely fresh bedding, a jug of water with glasses, bunches of flowers picked on the grounds and outside is a picnic table so you can relax outside too. Not to mention the hammock next to the cottage!

There is plenty to experience at Terra Wolde. Take a walk through the vegetable garden or the beautiful surrounding nature. Do you prefer cycling? There are several cycling routes in the area. It is also possible to explore from the water. At Terra Wolde there are sups that you can use as a guest. Lovely on a sunny summer's day.

And would you like to freshen up after supping? On the grounds of this special overnight accommodation is a bathhouse that is nicer than my own bathroom at home. At Buitenhotel Terra Wolde, everything has been thought of. Use the organic soap and shampoo to freshen up. These are biodegradable and therefore not harmful to nature.

Prefer not to go supping? Nearby is Zeewolde beach with Restaurant Fika. This is highly recommended if you want to splash around in cool water on hot days and experience the real beach-top feeling. Also nearby are the Oostvaardersplassen, where you hike through extraordinary nature.

Restaurant Pomponius is located in the middle of the Terra Wolde grounds and is open to guests from outside as well. So if you want to relax in a unique place after a bike ride or hike, be sure to drop by, you won't be disappointed.

The picturesque wooded surroundings make a dinner or coffee at Restaurant Pomponius no punishment. The restaurant operates a farm-to-table principle. As many ingredients as possible are grown in the restaurant's own vegetable garden and the rest is sourced from the surrounding area.

Restaurant Pomponius' chef is incredibly talented. He makes pure, understated dishes, most of which are cooked over a wood fire. All the dishes were truly finger-licking good! We enjoyed delicious vegetarian dishes, but it is also possible to enjoy honest meat or vegan dishes.

The restaurant is still under construction and is now being used as a pop-up. Owner Lisette tells that they want to build something extra every year, which means they are constantly busy and expanding. So there really will be a restaurant in the future, but the pop-up version is also definitely a must.

After a cosy evening on a site decorated with lights, I wake up peacefully in the big bed. As the sun shines through the upstairs window, I hear the birds singing. What a fine moment waking up in nature always is. As I get out of bed and slide into the hammock, I see the sun rise through the trees. Buitenhotel Terra Wolde is the perfect place to unwind.

Our fine stay is capped off with a delicious breakfast. The banana pancakes are decorated with honey from the hotel's own beehive, hazelnuts and blueberries, something you simply must try.
