Are you often on the go in Amsterdam for your work or study, or do you like to work in a different environment sometimes? Then the tips below will certainly be of value to you. In this blog, I share 6x the best work spots in Amsterdam, all of which contribute to a better world.
1. The VerbroederIJ - Johan van Hasseltweg 21
Cross over to the sunny side of the IJ and plop down at De VerbroederIJ. It is an urban beach, vegetable garden (with piglets!) and development site all in one. As soon as you step inside, you relax. The large terrace, the seats on the sand and the water you overlook. It's like being on holiday here. Working hard behind your laptop is suddenly not so bad at this workspot in Amsterdam.
The VerbroederIJ is a connecting place for all local residents and Amsterdammers. Various activities are organised regularly for and by involved residents. They also dedicate themselves to several social care objectives. For example, they offer vulnerable Amsterdammers a place to develop.
2. BUNK Amsterdam - Hagedoornplein 2
We stay on the other side of the IJ for a while, because there is a very nice workplace to be found there. In the middle of the old Sint-Ritakerk you will find BUNK Amsterdam. An incredibly cosy hotel and restaurant where you can easily spend a day flex-working. Feel welcome and take a seat at the long dining tables. During the day, the staff is happy to pamper you with affordable dishes made from organic local produce.
The transformed monumental church is all about meeting people from far and near. But they also find it very important to convey the rich history to their visitors. They do this by combining design, art, culture and luxury. So don't forget to take a walk around in between work to admire all the beauty.
3. Bar Botanique - Eerste Van Swindenstraat 581
Bar Botanique in Amsterdam Oost is a real gem where you could sit all day. The fantastic interior full of plants makes you feel like you're in the tropics. Choose a nice spot at a table or settle down on one of the cosy sofas. The cosy living room atmosphere ensures you can quickly tick off your to-do list. Who wouldn't want to work under the palm trees?
The history of this building certainly goes back to 1886. It all started with a gymnasium, which later became the neighbourhood's most popular living room café. Meanwhile, Bar Botanique continues that image, but in their own atmospheric green style. Experience it for yourself during a day at this workspot in Amsterdam.
4. Coffee & Coconuts - Ceintuurbaan 282
In a former cinema building in the heart of Amsterdam, you will find Coffee & Coconuts. A special place in the Pijp area, which radiates tranquillity through its bright interior. Everything here feels peaceful, free and open. And that in the middle of a sea of hustle and bustle. As you step into the building, the smell of their freshly roasted coffee already meets you. At lunch, you'll enjoy brightly coloured fruit and vegetable juices and scrumptious dishes. Just keep in mind that there are only a limited number of workstations.
At Coffee & Coconuts, they want you to be able to be yourself and live for a while without watching time. Think of it as a haven on a tropical island where the code word is 'freedom'. If you are not around to relax in the Pijp area, you can also visit their location in the Zuidas. Here, any spot can be used as a workplace.
5. Canary Club - Bellamyplein 51
The following place is truly a pearl for anyone who loves encounters, (hard) work, having fun and, of course, vegetarian food. The Canary Club is a quirky place where time is no object. You'll find it in the old tram depot in Amsterdam West. That's why they don't call themselves the Nest of West for nothing.
Tired of your work for a while? Retreat to one of the cosy corners or challenge your fellow flex worker to a game of table tennis. On Fridays, they like to end the working week with you during the flymibo. At the stroke of 17:00, you change from work bird to popping canary and enjoy a cosy drink with your friends.
6. Vinnies - Scheldestraat 45BG
At Vinnies , you feel completely at ease among the locals and travellers of Amsterdam. The wooden chairs and tables, the plants and the open bar create a relaxed and homely atmosphere. The interior and friendly staff make you feel right at home.
Feel welcome to work hard behind your laptop at Vinnies. There are plenty of power outlets and the WiFi is fine. In between meals, don't forget to take a look at the menu and treat yourself to something tasty. This is the hotspot for fair trade coffee and pure and fair food. Will you go for the hot chocolate oatmeal or the Moroccan couscous salad?
