Fancy escaping the cold winter days in a cosy living room café? Or are you tired of your own living room after yet another lockdown? Now that the hospitality industry is reopening its doors, you can once again discover all kinds of fine living room cafés.

The warm setting, music, often lots of games and lovely chairs and couches to plop down in: I love it. With a cosy setting, this is the ideal base to get together with friends, family or your partner for a delicious lunch, a snack, a chat or a drink. In this blog, I share my 6 favourite living room cafés in major cities.

1. Bhalu - Nijmegen

Bhalu is a special living room café in Nijmegen, a place to be together, talk, laugh and share knowledge. But you can also work here alone, for instance to flex. The space is filled with lovely seats, cosy indoor plants and a nice bar.

The menu, filled with vegetarian and vegan dishes, also makes us very happy. With a special cup of tea - such as the special blue tea - or a delicious smoothie to go with it, you will return from your visit to Bhalu completely satisfied.

We also offer yoga classes, both dynamic and tranquil, whatever you like! Finally, from time to time you can enjoy music at Bhalu, sit down with a good book on one of the shelves or play games with friends. In short, a lovely living room café where you can really unwind.

2. Coffee bar Sowieso - Breda

You will find Coffee Bar Sowieso in a quiet street on the edge of Breda 's lively city centre. A relaxed ambience awaits on the other side of the threshold, where you will find long tables, coloured chairs, a cosy garden and green plants everywhere. Koffiebar Sowieso is an oasis of calm.

Many people take a seat here for a cup of coffee and a good conversation or for a few hours of work. Coffee bar Sowieso is small-scale, which creates a friendly atmosphere. There are also plenty of delicious dishes on the menu. For breakfast or lunch, settle for one of the many vegan or gluten-free options. How about no pulled pork wrap, pancakes or a delicious soup of the day?

3. Picnic - Rotterdam

Peace, space and lightness. That is what you feel when you walk into Picknick. This cosy lunchroom and coffee bar may not be the typical living room café, but it certainly deserves a place in the list.

In summer, Picnic has large picnic tables where you can enjoy the sunshine, but it is also the right place to be in winter. The bright interior makes even the darkest winter days feel sunny. The staff are happy to chat and tell you more about the special dishes on the menu.

This living room café in Rotterdam makes everything itself. The products are supplied by local entrepreneurs where sustainability and the organic aspect are important. You can open your laptop here and get to work in peace or take the time to enjoy Picknick's atmosphere with friends. Honeyguide Amanda tips more coffee and lunch spots in Rotterdam in this blog.

4. The Young Admiral - Amsterdam

Hidden in the streets of Amsterdam-East you will find the Young Admiral. Loved by many locals, this is a great place to settle down and escape the hustle and bustle of our bustling capital. When you step inside the Young Admiral, it feels like coming home.

The pleasant atmosphere, friendly service and the smell of freshly baked cake make it a great place to take a seat. The walls of this coffee bar are filled with colourful lamps and in the corners you will find vintage sofas. There are many different games on the tables and laptops are a no-go here on weekends.

The menu is straightforward. Sandwiches with cheese, ox sausage or hummus and real Dutch snacks. The many products used come from local entrepreneurs. So whether you pop in for a cappuccino and the newspaper, a tasty omelette or a drink: at de Jonge Admiraal you experience Amsterdam.

5. The Baron - Utrecht

Owner Bas has a love of good food and conviviality. With his passion as a catering entrepreneur, he opened De Baron in Leidsche Rijn. This is a new urban district in Utrecht which could really use an authentic place full of cosiness. De Baron exudes warmth and charm. A characteristic wooden bar, luxurious sofas and cosy round tables fill the decor. But the awnings in front of the windows also make you feel like you're in Paris at times.

The goal of De Baron? Making you feel at home, having a nice evening and good food. The spareribs here are finger-licking good and their red velvet cake will also make you fall in love. De Baron has a special place among Leidsche Rijn locals. The perfect place to enjoy a cold beer after a busy working day.

6. Buutvrij - Tilburg

In the heart of Tilburg, you will find the special coffee café Buutvrij. With its cosy tables, the many works of art on the walls and the greenery on the shelves, this café exudes warmth. It is therefore not for nothing that it has been one of the most popular spots of Tilburg locals for nine years.

In this living room café people live. It is a vibrant place where creatives, artists and musicians like to step on stage to delight you with their creations. There are regular acoustic sessions, performances and readings here that you can watch from all angles.

Looking for a little more peace and quiet? Then you can also make use of flex workspaces here. In fact, the café is a screen and laptop free zone. So you can fully enjoy the cosy atmosphere. When work needs to be done, walk through to the workshop. This is a bright indoor garden entirely set up for studying, working and meetings. Buutvrij's menu also makes us happy. With deliciously varied dishes, you can stroll in here all day long for some goodies. Vegetarian and vegan options are also plentiful!

With your feet on the couch, good conversations and delicious food, you can hopefully understand where my love for these living room cafés comes from. These spots are oases in busy cities. Step over the threshold and come home to a cosy living room full of conviviality. For a quick coffee, an extended game night or a delicious lunch.
