Sometimes it is nice to work away from home. A different environment often provides me with new inspiration and creativity. But which flex workplace is the best place to go? My preference is often for an atmospheric coffee shop. Because say it yourself... a nice cappuccino next to your to-do's makes work a lot more pleasant, right? In this blog, I share with you some nice flex workspaces in the Netherlands.
1. Mama Gaia - Gonnetstraat 26, Haarlem
Mama Gaia is located in an old monumental building in Haarlem. A special place where you are inspired to work in a flexible way. Alone or with each other. Mama Gaia consists of four floors. In the basement, you can discuss ideas in the specially equipped meeting rooms. On the ground floor, enjoy delicious, plant-based dishes inspired by Mother Nature. On the upper floors, you can rent a permanent or flexible flexi workspace so you can work in peace.
Sustainability is very important to Mama Gaia. For instance, more than 90% of demolition material was reused during construction. They also cook with local and fresh products, trying to create as little waste as possible.
2. BROEI - Oosterkade 24, Utrecht
At BROEI, along the canals of Utrecht, creativity and inspiration flow naturally. Especially when you have tasted the vegan lunch. Not only is the food great, so is the interior. The homely atmosphere makes you feel right at home. There are books, plants and figurines everywhere and posters on the walls. At least you don't have to worry about getting bored.
Broei works with local and small-scale farmers, brewers, roasters and growers. Everything is fresh, organic, homemade and vegetarian. And as if that wasn't enough, they also make their own bread in the Broei bakery.
3. Sowieso Coffee Bar - Nieuwstraat 46, Breda
Coffee Bar Sowieso is located in the heart of Breda. The enthusiastic staff are happy to pamper you while you go about your business. Sowieso has a casual atmosphere. It is cosy and green. Take a seat at the large tree-trunk table or choose a flex workplace for yourself. If the weather is nice, you can also relax in the courtyard garden.
Also at Koffiebar Sowieso, you drink coffee from home-roasted beans and can choose from an extensive vegan selection. Everything here is healthy and always made from natural, locally sourced ingredients.
4. Bluebirds in the Backyard - Wijnstraat 153, Dordrecht
Bluebirds in the Backyard is a place you must have been in your life. This plant-based lunchroom, shop and event location is located in a historic monument in Dordrecht. Whether you sit inside in the atmospheric interior or outside in the quiet garden. It's a treat to work here. Also don't forget to browse around the shop. After all, Bluebirds sells very nice lifestyle and vintage products.
Bluebirds in the Backyard tries to do business as sustainably as possible by working with local entrepreneurs. But also by recycling and getting ingredients from their own vegetable garden. They do all this with a wonderful team of volunteers and people distanced from the labour market.
5. The Kip Family - Voorstsestraat 7, Voorst
Brainstorming, coaching, meeting or writing. At De Familie Kip, you rent an ergonomic workplace in the middle of Voorst nature. This special location in the Achterhoek makes you feel as if you are in another world. A world full of giant trees and ponds. There is plenty of space to work in a different way than usual. Secluded in your own workroom or in the sun by the water.
The Chicken Family cares about your health. That is why they encourage you to alternate sufficiently between sitting and standing while working. This is good for your focus, but also for your circulation.
6. Coffee & Me - Vleutenseweg 169, Utrecht
Koffie & Ik is a popular spot among flex workers. It sits just outside the city, giving you the idea that you are really among the locals in Utrecht. The smooth staff are happy to introduce you to delicious coffees, fresh juices and tasty cakes. The minimalist interior ensures you can focus. Need to relax? Crawl into the windowsill or plop down on the terrace in the sun.
What's great about Koffie & Ik is that the dishes on the menu are organic and local as much as possible. The coffee you drink here is made by home-roasted coffee beans that they also sell. Really worth a try!
7. Bhalu - Bloemerstraat 95, Nijmegen
The last flex workplace I want to share with you is Bhalu in Nijmegen. Bhalu is a living room and yoga studio in one. They encourage you to grow, to be more conscious in life and to make responsible choices. Here you end your working day with a white asparagus risotto and a class of yin yoga for dessert. After a visit to Bhalu, you will feel recharged, relaxed and fulfilled.
Health and sustainability are central to Bhalu. They want the best for people and planet. This is reflected in everything they exude. An interior full of greenery, nice seats and warm-hearted staff.
I hope I’ve inspired you with these unique gems that also prioritise sustainability. Which flexible workspace is your favourite? Share it on @heyhoneyguide and don’t forget to tag us using @honeyguide.nl/en.
