Whether you are a digital nomad, a freelancer or just a lover of flexi-working, Maastricht has many cosy coffee shops to work in. Because say it yourself, sometimes it's great to work outside the door in a place that has more to offer than just a desk, isn't it? A place where you get inspired, taste local flavours and connect with like-minded people. In this blog, I take you on a voyage of discovery through Maastricht and share five places where you can (flex)work.
1. Coffee at Joost and Maartje - Maastrichter Heidenstraat 8
If you are looking for a coffee shop in Maastricht with delicious coffee and a relaxed atmosphere, Koffie bij Joost en Maartje is the place to be. Here, you will be pampered with coffee from a Kees van der Westen machine (one of the best coffee machines in the Netherlands) and fresh pastries that owner Maartje has baked with love. Whether you sit inside by the large window, at the work table or outside on the terrace, you will surely manage to tick off your to-do's here. With free wifi, power outlets and friendly people around you for a chat, this is the ideal place to work and relax. And you know what else is great about this place? All the furniture is handmade by owner Joost.
2. Shared Wealth - Petrus Regoutplein 2
Our Honeyguide heart beats faster for places that encourage sustainability and local cooperation. Therefore, Gedeelde Weelde should definitely not be missing from this list of (flex)workplaces in Maastricht. Gedeelde Weelde is a cooperative shop that brings local entrepreneurs and residents together to make and sell fair and fresh products. In the accompanying café, you can sit down to work for a few hours, but also enjoy an organic vegetarian lunch with several vegan and gluten-free options. A better inspiring workplace hardly exists, right?
3. Dominican bookshop - Dominican Church Street 1
Step into the magical world of Boekhandel Dominicanen, voted the most beautiful bookstore in the world. Housed in a breathtaking 700-year-old church, this place offers a unique blend of history and modernity. The interior, a combination of glass, metal, gold-coloured stained glass and contemporary chandeliers, creates an inspiring atmosphere. At the back of the shop you will find the CoffeeLovers, a great place to work. Here you can make use of good wifi, a long work table with comfortable chairs and plenty of power outlets. Sometimes you can even enjoy lectures or live music. I'm sure this is the most unique coffee shop in Maastricht!
4. Boundless - Boschstraat 98
For a warm welcome and excellent coffee, Grenzeloos is the place to be. This social enterprise in Maastricht is not only a nice coffee shop to work in, but also a place where you can support the local community. This is because here they help people with a refugee background to get ready for the job market. The workers are happy to be given a chance here and you can see that in the service. Everything is served with a broad smile. With good wifi, a central location and a warm interior, including a nice courtyard garden, this is an ideal place for a flex worker like you.
5. The Fire Cafeteria - Capucijnenstraat 21
Have you already heard of The Fire Station? This former fire station in Maastricht has been transformed into an inspiring restaurant where you can also work from time to time. The interior exudes nostalgia thanks to the vintage furniture from the 1950s and 1960s. This really makes it feel like a creative breeding ground. Find a nice spot and open your laptop. In between meals, don't forget to treat yourself to one of the delicious dishes made from seasonal and local produce. The Fire Brigade canteen also has a canteen exchange library. Here you can leave books and swap them for something new. How fun is that!
As you can read, there are plenty of coffee shops in Maastricht where you can work and gain new creativity. Which one is your favourite? Share it with us by using @honeyguide.nl/en on Instagram or #heyhoneyguide. I'm very curious!
