Lying on your bed, you look out the window. The magical starry sky makes your thoughts slow down. It is extraordinary that no matter what time of day it is and where you are, the stars are always different. I myself can spend hours looking at the night sky and fantasising about the infinite universe. In this blog, I would therefore like to share with you some special accommodations where you can sleep under the stars in the Netherlands. Can you find the North Star and the Great Bear?

1. Skyte Nature Lodge - Drenthe

When it gets dark, you crawl under the wool or step into a warm bath. Looking up, you can see the moon and glittering stars filling the sky. Skyte Nature lodge is a fine place in the middle of nature, where you can enjoy the smallest things.

From the cottage, you walk straight onto the heathland and can enjoy the purple beauty of Drenthe's nature. The walk takes you past wild orchids, moorland sheep and sand drifts. On your return you can relax in the hot tub, by the wood-burning stove or by the fire pit. At least you won't have to worry about catching a cold here ;).

2. WeidumerHout - Friesland

Right in the heart of Friesland lies WeidumerHout, a boutique hotel with ten special hotel-cubes on a 3.5-hectare estate. These tiny houses give you stunning panoramic views and the ultimate outdoor feeling due to the huge glass windows. Going to bed late and waking up early is suddenly not so bad at all.

At WeidumerHout they do a lot with sustainability. For instance, they offer organic local produce and try to minimise food waste. The hotel cubes are largely recyclable and well insulated. They also have their own wastewater treatment, solar collector and green electricity. A great place to sleep under the stars in the Netherlands, right!

3. The Mandela House Inn - Amsterdam

Toasting at sunset, counting falling stars at night and waking up with a view of the IJ river and passing ships. At Herberg het Mandela Huisje, you will experience a dream stay. In the middle of the suite is a round bed designed by artist Harry de Dood, an Amsterdam furniture maker and designer. The walls and roof are made of glass, making sleeping under the stars truly unique, and that just in the Netherlands!

During your stay, you make the world a little more beautiful at the same time. Because by sleeping at the Mandela House, you make it possible for the organisation to make the space available at a discount for social, cultural and educational initiatives.

4. Hihahut - The Green Heart

For the real adventurers among us, I wholeheartedly recommend the Sterrenkijker of the Hihahut in 't Groene Hart. You reach the hut by a tandem ride or by rowing boat, but you can also set off on your own bike or on foot. After completing the route, you will find the Sterrenkijker hidden in an orchard full of apple trees. The glass dome in the cabin allows you to fall asleep under the stars at night.

All Hihahut huts are self-sufficient and furnished as sustainably as possible. Thus, besides being a party, it is also responsible to sleep in these colourful hiker's huts. Because say it yourself... surely it feels good to be on holiday and leave a hugely low ecological footprint?

5. The Unbound - Amsterdam

The Lighthouse at The Unbound Amsterdam is a place you really want to have been. This accommodation with glass skylight, gives you a perfect view of our Dutch landscape. Get out in nature and relax in your own wood-fired hot tub where you can watch the sun set and the stars rise in the open air.

After a wonderful night sleeping under the stars in the Netherlands, explore the lush, natural grounds of Unbound Amsterdam. The estate is made for you to create your own free world. Away from the hustle and bustle and in the middle of nature. Unwind on the yoga field, along the pond or in the 4.5 hectares of wild garden.

6. Bossem Heritage - Overijssel

And last but not least... Erfgoed Bossem. An organic farm in Lattrop-Breklenkamp, Overijssel. At Erfgoed Bossem, you can sleep in specially designed cubes under the stars in the Netherlands. This makes it seem as if you are sleeping in the open air. A magical experience you might say. The cottages are very cosy and snugly decorated, making it great to enjoy without distractions.

There is plenty to experience on and around Heritage. See, smell, feel and taste the pure Twente country life on the farm or go out into the region. From the farmyard, you can follow beautiful cycle routes to discover the beautiful scenery of North-East Twente and the border region.

Lazing away under the stars hoping to see a shooting star or, if you are lucky, the Milky Way. Do you feel like spending a night under the stars in the Netherlands? I am curious to know which accommodation is your favourite. Don't forget to share your stay on Instagram by using @heyhoneyguide and #heyhoneyguide?
