Vegan food is becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Not only is it very tasty, but by forgoing meat and dairy (occasionally), you also do your bit for a more sustainable and animal-friendly world. In this blog, I take you to my favourite restaurants to eat vegan in Amsterdam.

1. Robin-Food Volkskeuken - Frederik Henderikstraat 111

Welcome to the social and activist kitchen of Robin Food. A people's kitchen run by Anne, Branko, Erik and many volunteers. At Robin Food People's Kitchen, resistance starts on your plate. Because here they strive for a better world. The menu features healthy and honest food. Vegetarian and vegan dishes prepared with mainly ecological products. This is how Robin Food peacefully combats food waste and wants to take care of the environment.

De Volkskeuken is located in the former squatted school building the Frederik Hendriksschool. This is a place where your ideas are listened to and where visitors learn from each other. Every week there is a free supermarket full of products that would otherwise go into the trash, and in another room of the school building there are regular movie nights.

2. Alchemist Garden - Overtoom 409

Enjoy pure food in the middle of the city at Alchemist Garden. Vegan dishes prepared with local, organic and seasonal produce. At Alchemist Garden, everything is inspired by nature.

The Alchemist is a true philosopher of nature. He lives consciously and is a true do-gooder. For this, his own health and feelings are important, but also his passion and ability to connect with himself and his environment. With this knowledge, Alchemist Garden creates a picture of awareness, health and sustainability.

3. Café de Ceuvel - Korte Papaverweg 2

Located on a former shipyard, De Ceuvel is one of the most sustainable and innovative urban experiments in Europe.

Café de Ceuvel wants to make a difference and that difference starts on your plate. That's why this Amsterdam-based vegan restaurant goes in search of really good food, and that goes beyond a label that says 'local' or 'organic'. For instance, they offer homemade drinks and have been cooking completely vegan since 2020. In this way, they want to show that sustainable agriculture can be nutritious without harming the environment.

In winter, you can sit inside by the fireplace. In summer, enjoy the sun on the terrace. The water can offer a pleasant coolness. De Ceuvel is a sustainable breeding ground for creative and social entrepreneurs. On the site you will also find creative workplaces, a cultural centre around sustainability and even a floating hotel.

In Amsterdam, there are so many great restaurants to enjoy vegan food. Pure, honest and good for the world! Do you have a favourite place? Add it as a tip to the Honeyguide App!

Love,
Anne
