As ambassador of Honeyguide, I am always looking for the greenest and most sustainable places in the Netherlands. For the occasion, I decided to take another close look at my own hometown. What are the greenest hotspots and coolest eco spots in the capital? I hope my tips will tempt you to go off the beaten track in Amsterdam.
1. A silence walk in the city centre - Peace and quiet in Vondel Park
Until recently, I didn't know you could find an oasis of tranquillity in the Vondelpark among the cycling tourists. But it's possible: in the middle of the park, you can sign up for a silence walk in the enclosed section. Want to know more about this silence walk? Then join us on Sunday morning during the next edition.

2. Van Eesteren Museum - Including a nice hospitality tip
A museum in Nieuw-West that is not yet on many people's radar. New-West is the greenest and largest district of Amsterdam, and this museum is also located at the Sloterplas - ideal to combine with a nice walk around the water. But first, of course, dive into the museum.
NOTE: At the Van Eesteren Museum, 2025 is all about ‘The Sacred Life of Plants’!
Be sure to enjoy a cup of coffee from one of the 1950s-style cups.
TIP: Or take a seat a few metres away at BUITEN - on a sunny day this is a great place to sit on the terrace with a view of the Sloterplas.
3. Zuidas Botanical Garden - Van der Boechorststraat 8
The Hortus Botanicus is of course beautiful and well-known to the general public. But did you know that there is another botanical garden in the Zuidas that far fewer people know about? On weekdays, you will find yourself alone in the world here. From April to October you can also visit on weekends, and there are regular fun activities to take part in.
This botanical garden is particularly beautiful – the perfect place to unwind for a while. This mini-Hortus was established in 1967 as the botanical garden of the Vrije Universiteit.
4. Hotel Jakarta - A sustainable and natural hotel
Staying the night? The best place to do so is at the energy-neutral 4-star Jakarta Hotel in Amsterdam. Not right in the centre, but close by - in a spectacular spot on the tip of Java Island. Think: glass facades, a real jungle on the inside, and you sleep with views over the IJ and the city.
5. The Street Art Museum - Admiring art in the fresh air
A museum in the open air? In Amsterdam Nieuw-West, you have the Street Art Museum. A series of impressive murals that you can simply cycle past. So you can spot the Milkmaid outside the museum. The museum has more than 300 artworks, a good number for a brisk walk through Amsterdam's largest neighbourhood.
