Have you run out of restaurants in Amsterdam, or do you want to get off the beaten track for once? We tested the best food spots and restaurants in Amstelveen. Amstelveen has a vibrant food scene with surprising culinary finds. For example, did you know that due to the large number of expats, you will find many Indian and Japanese restaurants in Amstelveen? From farm to brewer and from fushion fine dining to cosy coffee shops: these are our favourite tips for eating out in Amstelveen.

1. De Boshalte, Amstelveen - Coffee bar in Amstelveen

This heartwarming living room café on the edge of the Amsterdam forest serves great coffee. Run by the lovely Stefanie, the Boshalte is much more than just a coffee bar. Besides being a place where local residents come home, the Boshalte is also a learning and workplace for young people from all walks of life. Tip: in addition to your cup of barista-made coffee, order a homemade cake. We got a mix of carrot cake, apple pie and brownies. High on sweetness, we then jumped on our bikes (you can also rent them here) to explore the Amsterdam forest.

2. Goat farm Ridammer Hoeve - Organic breakfast and lunch in Amstelveen

This cosy goat farm is no secret for locals, but it is a great place for breakfast and lunch in Amstelveen. In the middle of the Amsterdam forest (next to the cherry blossom park) you will find the Ridammerhoeve, run by the friendly Corine and Wim. Hundreds of goats make this organic farm a happy beast mess. On the terrace, chickens quietly scratch around the tables. Everything on the breakfast and lunch menu is organic and vegetables come from their own vegetable garden as much as possible. We went for a home-made goat cheese board and immediately took a piece of cheese home for later.

Our tip: At Ridammer Hoeve, you will find unique experiences with goats. You can give milk to the lambs, do goat yoga or have breakfast with the goats. For the latter two, it is best to book in advance.

3. Micaro - Eating out at a top Asian restaurant in Amstelveen

Only the best ingredients from Asian cuisine pass Chef Ming's strict inspection. At Micaro - a new sushi & more restaurant in Amstelveen - they take Asian fushion to a new level. If you like eating out luxuriously and love sushi, Micaro is one for your wish list. We tasted a selection of sushi and dumplings and would have loved to stay for a while, long after the food was finished. This could just become one of the best (sushi) restaurants in Amstelveen.

4. ANNA Amstelveen - Micro-brewery in an old church

The pleasant murmur of ANNA Amstelveen's regulars echoes through the hall of the former Annakerk. Here, home-brewed beer from Naeckte Brouwers and Pontus Brewing flows richly through the tap. Drinking in this hip church is a treat. Enthusiasts join us for a beer tasting in the tasting room. Led by host Caspar, we tasted beers from blonde to amber. Feeks was our favourite, followed by Amazon. Nice to know: there is monthly live music in the church, which gives your night out in Amstelveen that little bit extra. Check out ANNA Amstelveen 's agenda and plan your visit to this brewery.

Also fun to do: Museum JAN in Amstelveen - And this

Besides a lot of tasting, we visited the small-scale Museum JAN. This fun museum in Amstelveen has a cool collection of visual glass art. Funny thing is that the founder's living room is also part of the museum from time to time (but only when the door is open 😉 ). We visited jewellery designer Ted Noten's exhibition - on display until 4 February 2024 - in which he uses the idea of 'value' as inspiration. Think reptiles in epoxy bags and interactive wall where you can swap something of value for a genuine Ted Noten piggy ring.

Want to know more about what to do in Amstelveen? Take a look at the Visit Amstelveen website, where they have selected the best highlights for you every season. As well as a whole list of hip restaurants in Amstelveen that take you around the world. The best way to eat out just outside Amsterdam.

Bon appetit friends.

Love,

Amanda
