From restaurants where you can dine endlessly to culinary delights where every dish looks like a painting. If you have ever been to The Hague, you know it is full of great places to eat. Are you going to our Hofstad soon or are you curious about my favourites? In this blog, I share 7x hip restaurants in The Hague. Enjoy your meal!
1. Capriole Café - Fokkerkade 18
In the characteristic Brinckhorst district on the Fokkerhaven, an industrial pearl is hidden. A pearl called Capriole Café. Upon entering, you are surprised by a minimalist interior in a warm, homely atmosphere. From your table, you look straight into the open kitchen where the chefs prepare a delicious three-, four- or five-course dinner for you. Prepared entirely with local and fresh seasonal ingredients.
After the culinary dinner, it is time to get to know what Capriole Café is known for. The coffee roastery with slow roast coffee. You'll want to have tasted that! Will you go for an espresso with rosemary or a cappuccino brûlée?
2. Botanica - Kneuterdijk 8
For those seeking peace and quiet, Botanica is the place to be. This hidden city garden is right in the heart of The Hague. All dishes on the menu consist of 80% vegetables and 20% protein. All prepared according to the five principles of Dutch Cuisine: culture, healthy, nature, quality and value.
Not only on the map, but also the interior is based on nature. Admire the butterflies on the ceiling and the pinecone lamps above the tables. Here you can enjoy sitting at the high round bar or at one of the restaurant's cute seating areas. Dining at Botanica is a plant-based feast!
3. Brasserie Amare - Spuiplein 150
A culinary experience of exceptional quality served by people with disabilities. That is what Brasserie Amare describes well. Feast on the plant-based drinks menu or dine extensively. Will you choose the scallop made from King Boleet (fungus species) or the tartare made from dry-aged beetroot? Whatever you go for, you can hardly distinguish it from meat or fish.
This restaurant is located in cultural palace Amare in The Hague and should certainly not be missing from this list of hip restaurants. Amare is a house where culture, education, events and meetings come together. So before your theatre performance, this is the place to go for a local, seasonal and affordable meal!
4. Restaurant Oogst - Denneweg 10 B
Be surprised by one of the 12 unique dishes created each season by Restaurant Oogst. All fresh ingredients come from Laantje Voorham, a biodynamic vegetable garden in Wassenaar. And do you really want to complete the dishes? The sommelier's special, organic wines make for a fantastic combination.
With a passion for hospitality, the team at Restaurant Oogst likes to pamper you. Take a seat at the small tables set up in the atmospheric interior. For a moment, you will feel like you are in a French bistro.
5. Ristorante Italiano La Liguria - Noordeinde 97
For anyone who, like me, thoroughly enjoys Italian cuisine, La Liguria really is a place to eat. Here, traditions are kept alive by preparing only slow food. This translates into top-quality ingredients from Italy with as much respect for nature as possible as well as a fair price for everyone. Home-made buffalo burrata, extra-virgin olive oil from 100% Italian olives and fresh truffles. My mouth is watering even as I write about it...
Inside or in the blooming city garden. This hip restaurant in The Hague invites you for an evening of fine dining by candlelight. Believe me, you will want to have been here once!
6. Dekxels - Denneweg 130
Meet Dekxels, a restaurant located on the cosy Denneweg. Here you share small dishes full of Mediterranean and Asian flavours together. Will you start with the Japanese oysters, Indian salad or the Curry Katsu?
The interior has many natural and warm elements, so you quickly feel at ease. Sit down and be surprised by great flavour variations. After dinner, it is great to hang out at the green bar with a gin tonic at the back of the restaurant. I am sure you will come back here!
7. Nona - Mauritskade 67
This small but incredibly fine restaurant is a gem in The Hague. Julia, the face behind Nona, takes you into a Sicilian dream with nostalgic family dishes, but wrapped in a new jacket. You can taste the love for the country in everything.
Join us for a 4-course dinner on one of the four evenings (Thursday to Sunday). All you have to do is book in advance and enjoy everything you are served. Like the dishes, the intimate restaurant looks like an Italian painting. Everything is done to perfection to give you the evening of your life. Buon appetito!
