Ready for a carefree holiday with, for example, a wheelchair-friendly day out? Then going on holiday can still be a challenge. But not in Vechtdal in Overijssel. This green destination is suitable for everyone, but it is especially suitable for people with physical disabilities.

Vechtdal is an oasis of tranquillity, with lots of greenery and of course the river Vecht flowing through the region as its beating heart. Here you can discover kilometres of forest trails and sail on the Vecht. Eat out and taste local Vechtdal products or take a look at the farmer in the fields. There are wheelchair-friendly boat trips and hiking trails, and many restaurants and hotels have taken into account space, toilet facilities and other possible obstacles.

3x Carefree accommodation

A good night's sleep is necessary to fully enjoy a great holiday. The following accommodation options are the right ones for a carefree stay. But also check the Ongehinderd app to find carefree sleepovers and outings.

  1. Camping De Boergondier

Hardenberg was named most accessible municipality in 2019. In this town, you will also find camping site De Boergondiër. Here, you can use night and day dialysis. Owner Jolanda is a dialysis nurse and will help you where necessary. During dialysis, you look out over the fields full of grain, beets and peonies.

  1. The Imminkhoeve

Care & lifestyle hotel Imminkhoeve also offers carefree holidays in Lemele. Here, people with a disability and their partner or parents can relax. Unique at the Imminkhoeve is the Dream House. In this snoezelruimte, all your senses are stimulated and you experience deep relaxation. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it?

  1. Camping De Vos

Another carefree stay can be found at Camping de Vos in Lemelerveld. The Boer'n Safari tent takes wheelchair users into account. There are no thresholds in this luxury tent, the kitchen cabinets can be moved and the aisles are nice and wide so you can easily roll through them.

Accessible dining in Vechtdal

If you are staying near Harderberg, pay a visit to De Rheezerbelten. Here it's all about enjoyment. For the culinary gourmets, there is Rheezer Bistro, where they cook with seasonal products from the nature of the Vecht valley. But pancake lovers will also enjoy themselves here. In De Rheezerbelten's pancake restaurant, you can choose from as many as more than 100 kinds of artisanal pancakes. De Rheezerbelten is even a member of the association of recognised pancake restaurants.

The restaurant is fully accessible both inside and outside for people with physical disabilities. The menu is also available in Braille and, of course, guide dogs are also welcome.

Prefer something tasty in between? In the small town of Rheeze you will find the SomerWende. A nice place to unwind in the garden of the Somer family's farm. Hostess Wilma is a tea and coffee connoisseur and will tell you all about it during, for instance, a high tea. SomerWende is of course wheelchair-accessible.

3x things to do with a physical disability

In Vechtdal, they think in terms of possibilities and not limitations. That is why there are plenty of activities that are wheelchair-accessible or where other aids are no problem.

  1. Boating

Explore the Vecht from one of Rederij Peters' boats. Sit back and enjoy how the river winds its way through Ommen and its surroundings. From the water, explore picturesque villages, boating inns, forests and heathlands. The tour boat of shipping company Peters is accessible for wheelchair users. The ramp to the entrance is 75cm wide and there is an adapted toilet.

  1. Wheelchair-accessible forest paths

Vechtdal also has some wheelchair-accessible forest paths. The Voe(t)dsel aan de Vecht route is one of them. The route is six kilometres long and follows paved paths. On the path along the Vecht, you can learn more about edible plants at the water's edge.

Good to know: muscle power is required on some stretches because of the height differences. And at high tide in the Vecht, the paths may be flooded and there may be cow dung on the path.

When you stay at the Imminkhoeve, you can walk straight from your cottage onto the wheelchair path. The hotel lies on a 4.3 kilometre long accessible (walking) path.

  1. Wine tasting

John and Wilma run their own wine farm. On no less than three hectares of land you will find Wijngoed de Reestlandhoeve. Here you can go for a delicious wine tasting, drinking a variety of organic and local wines. The Reestlandhoeve is easily accessible for people with a (physical) disability. Cheers to that!

Vechtdal in Overijssel is the perfect destination for a carefree holiday. In this beautiful place, much consideration has been given to people with physical disabilities, so you can enjoy a carefree holiday. After all, accessibility should be the same for everyone.

Love,
Yalou
