As we drive from Breda to Drenthe, the landscape changes to ever greener surroundings. Our journey takes us to Camping Buitenland in Zandpol. Together with my boyfriend, I get to spend a long weekend in the special tiny house Nieuw Amsterdams Pijl. A super nice experience that I am happy to share more about in this blog. Will you join us at Buitenland in the Netherlands?

Swimming, relaxing and good food - A place you don't have to leave

My boyfriend and I say to each other after we have walked around the site: 'You can really spend the whole weekend here'! Camping Buitenland has a swimming pool, BuitenBar and in the surrounding forest is a small lake called Natuurbad de Zandpol. Fun activities are organised daily, but the campsite is also incredibly quiet. Do you feel like a bit of excitement? Then listen to live music in the evenings or visit a small market at the weekend.

Oh, and another nice detail! You can have a splash in the 'Bugtub'. This hot tub is inside an old Volkswagen Beetle.

Every accommodation is different - A walk on the campsite

Camping Buitenland is a creative breeding ground. You will find various works of art on the campsite. Walking around the campsite, my heart beats faster with every old, colourful camper I see. Camping Buitenland offers camping pitches, bell tents and tiny houses. Each tiny house is different and this is precisely what makes this hidden gem so unique. During our walk, we pass Campsite Dream. During an overnight stay in this Airstream (American silver caravan), you enjoy a spacious terrace with pizza oven and hammock.

Spend the night in New Amsterdam Arrow - Two old sea containers converted into a tiny house

The best thing about tiny house Nieuw Amsterdams Pijl is that it is made entirely of recycled materials. You can sleep four people there. Upstairs in the turret is a double bed and downstairs is a bedroom with two single beds. On colder days you can light the wood-burning stove. This was not necessary in our case as we still had lovely sunny weather over the weekend.

The cottage is fully equipped with kitchen, bathroom and sitting area. Outside, there is a picnic table and bbq on the terrace. And at the front of the cottage are two large rocking benches and a fire pit. At reception, you can buy a bag of wood so you can make fires all weekend.

Warm summer days - Drinking beers and playing games in the BuitenBar

When we arrive on Friday evening, we no longer feel like cooking. We sit down at a table in the BuitenBar. A delicious smell of garlic and fresh herbs wafts from the pizza oven. We are in luck because on Fridays and Saturdays, fresh stone-oven pizzas are made here. There is no better way to start the weekend. Over a beer, we still enjoy the evening sun.

Later in the weekend, we often take a seat in the BuitenBar. At lunchtime, we treat ourselves to pancakes and in the evenings we listen to live music. There are also a number of fire bowls hanging near the BuitenBar, and as soon as it cools down a bit the campfires appear. This makes it even nicer to sit outside for a long time.

A swimming lake in the forest - Tip in the area

We enjoyed everything there is to do at Camping Buitenland and did not go out very much. But I do have a nice tip for you. About a 25-minute drive from the campsite is Zwemplas Schoonhoven. This large lake has a fine sandy beach and is a nice place to make a splash on hot days. Near the lake is Paviljoen Schoonhoven where you can enjoy a nice lunch or a drink. A really nice place to enjoy the summer!

We found complete relaxation at Camping Buitenland. On two evenings, we cooked a simple meal on the gas stove of our cottage and read a book in the evening sun. Simple moments like these are so incredibly nice. Pick your favourite accommodation at Camping Abroad and plan a moment to unwind. I look forward to hearing about your experience!
