When the days get shorter and the cold outside increases, there is nothing like warming up indoors with a tasting full of flavour. From delicious wine and beer tastings to a winter BBQ. There is a whole world of delicious and fun winter activities. Below, I suggest some great options where you can go in winter for a fun and tasty evening.
1. Wine tasting at De Smaak van Bilderhof in Dordrecht - Dordrecht, South Holland
The Taste of Bilderhof in Dordrecht is a warm, cosy winery where you experience wine tasting. You taste a selection of Dordrecht wines. From crisp white to full-bodied red wines, accompanied by tasty snacks that go perfectly with them. What makes this tasting extra special is that the wines are made right here in Dordrecht. The grapes grow in vineyards on the Eiland van Dordrecht. This is an area surrounded by rivers, protecting the grapes from frost. The mild climate and good location produce grapes with their own recognisable flavour. During the evening, you will not only get a tasting, but also a look behind the scenes. You will learn how the wine is made, from grape to bottle.
At vandeStreek Bier in Utrecht, you step into their own tasting room, overlooking the kettles where the beer is brewed. Here you taste their regular beers, such as Playground, Brothers and Hazy Weekend. There are also special beers that you can only drink at their own on-trade locations. Each beer is made with great care and craftsmanship. VandeStreek uses original techniques to brew their beer. For example, they use special yeast for low-alcohol beers. Besides all the beers, they have a delicious drinks menu. My favourite? The crispy cauliflower with sriracha mayo. It's a nice place for a relaxing afternoon or evening with friends, good beer, snacks and the cosy atmosphere of a brewery. In short, a complete beer tasting experience from start to finish.
3. Chocolate and Wine Tasting at The Chocolate Block - Breda, North Brabant
At The Chocolate Block you can do a chocolate & wine experience. You first get a glass of cava and chocolate on arrival. Then you taste five wines that you combine with various chocolates and chocolate products from Visser Chocolade. During the blind tasting, you taste chocolate without seeing which one you are eating. This way, you pay pure attention to taste and discover differences. The tasting takes about two hours and can be booked from four people upwards. This experience will show you how chocolate and wine can fit together, paying attention to quality and taste.
4. Stamppot tasting at LaVie - At home
Stamppot is a traditional Dutch dish that has been eaten for centuries in the cold winter months. But is stamppot really Dutch? Not quite! In fact, during the Eighty Years' War, we were inspired by the Spanish. Of course, we gave it our own twist, and this is how the many kinds of stamppot we know today came into being. At LaVie Catering, you order a stew box that is delivered fresh and packed. You can choose the classic stamppot box, which consists of a tasting of classics such as kale, hutspot and sauerkraut. This includes appropriate garnishes such as mustard, Amsterdam onion and bacon bits. But the one I like best is the stamppot box with a twist. It contains varieties of stew you would not easily make yourself. For example, sweet potato with pointed cabbage and macadamia nuts. So you can discover new flavours at home and enjoy mashed potatoes in a surprising way.
5. Coffee tasting at Ketelbinkie - Rotterdam, South-Holland
At Ketelbinkie Koffie in Rotterdam, you will learn to really taste coffee during the workshop. The workshop takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and takes place in the roastery and coffee kitchen. Coffee master Tacq, coffee roaster and barista, talks about everything from coffee bean to cup. You will discover how coffee is grown, roasted and which flavours are typical for Rotterdam coffee. Together with the group, you taste different coffees and pay attention to smell and taste. You learn to name flavours and share findings with others. The workshop will stimulate all your senses and give you new insights, which will make you look at coffee differently afterwards.
6. Tour de Boer cycle route - Nissewaard, Zuid-Holland
If you like cycling and regional products, the Tour de Boer is for you. The route goes through the green polders of Nissewaard and past picturesque historical villages. Along the way, you will stop at several farm shops, where you can taste the tastiest local products, such as cheeses, cold cuts and jams. Sometimes the shops are just outside the normal cycling junction, so pay close attention to the map or follow the locations via Google Maps. You can view the route online or download the GPX on your phone. This is a fun way to discover the countryside, taste local produce and enjoy a day cycling in nature. In short, the perfect winter activity.
7. Making kombucha at Untamed - Gemert, North Brabant
Untamed' s Kombucha Tasting is an educational workshop in their own brewery in Gemert where you can make kombucha. Under the guidance of master brewer Joris, you will learn how kombucha is made and how flavours are created. You will participate in an extensive tasting of four wild kombucha flavours, learning to pay attention to aroma, taste and balance. These flavours are made with fruits, herbs and spices. You will also brew your own kombucha in a glass jar and create your own flavour for the second fermentation. Afterwards, you will go home with a SCOBY, with which you can make unlimited kombucha at home.
8. Winter BBQ workshop by Smokey Goodness - Delft, South Holland
