Tilburg is seen by many as the underdog of Brabant. But while the city may lack classic charm due to World War II bombings, it makes up for a lot with its creative urban spots and green city outskirts. This old textile city is hip. Experience it for yourself on a weekend trip to Tilburg.

Spend the night at Villa La Vida - A night out in Tilburg

100 years ago, Piushaven was the trading centre of Tilburg. Today, it is mainly a place to relax. And where better to do that than in Villa La Vida, the living room of this port area. Here you sleep in unique rooms inspired by different parts of the world. In the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast. Honeyguide Daphne has already written about her 5 favourite neighbourhoods in Tilburg, including Pius haven.

3x museums in Tilburg - Discover the industrial city

1. Start your weekend in Tilburg's Veemarktkwartier, the city's creative breeding ground. In the old factory halls of the former textile mill, you now find the Textile Museum. Here you can see the development of textile techniques and machines. In addition, designers are busy experimenting with fabrics in the Textile Lab. This is where the past and present of the textile industry come together.

2. Another great museum in Tilburg is Museum de Pont. In an old wool spinning mill, Museum de Pont shows contemporary art of international stature. The monumental old factory with its large, bright hall and intimate 'wool lofts' is a wonderful setting for the many works of art.

3. A museum with a totally different allure can also be found in Tilburg. When you enter Meta Maze, you step into a unique experience. Here you wander around inside a large artwork consisting of rooms full of surrealist art. This place is difficult to put into words and plays on all your senses. It is a maze you will never forget and definitely worth a visit during your weekend break in Tilburg.

2x restaurants in Tilburg - Dining out during your weekend break

1. With the arrival of the steam train, Tilburg gained momentum as a textile city. A single train carriage from 1930 is still parked in the middle of town and has been converted into a restaurant: Eetbar de Wagon, where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner in various authentic carriages. A tasty pit stop during your weekend break in the heart of Tilburg.

2. Close to Tilburg station you also have a delicious restaurant: Focus Foodbar, a 100% plant-based food bar. Good food and drink are the focus here and they work with pure, honest and high-quality artisanal ingredients. My favourite? The Tempehburger! With a short ten-minute walk, you can belly up on the train on your way home.

Discover the surroundings of Tilburg - Extend your weekend

1, From Tilburg, you can follow a 14-kilometre hiking trail that leads you through the western part of national landscape Het Groene Woud. Stichting Duurzaamheidsvallei is committed to nature conservation and development in this area and preserving its historical heritage. Artworks here tell, among other things, the history of Huize Moerenburg; Tilburg's first stone building from 1310.

2. Just outside Tilburg, you will find Oisterwijk. A cosy village with the beautiful Oisterwijk woods and fens. For nature lovers, this area is 100% enjoyable. From three Natuurpoorten, many routes and paths lead through beautiful stretches of nature. Ideal if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of your Tilburg city break.
