From an outdoor hotel among tall trees to a charming vintage camper van: the Netherlands is home to countless unique accommodations waiting to be discovered. But also just across the border are hidden gems full of micro-adventure. In this blog, I inspire you with 8x tips for a special night out - all great places with a sustainable heart, where our Honeyguide ambassadors have had the pleasure of staying before.
1. Terra Wolde - Zeewolde
Amidst the tall trees of Zeewolde lies the Netherlands' most special country hotel, Terra Wolde. It is a place where you really go back to earth and enjoy the simple outdoors. Sleep in a bell tent, yurt or in an off-grid forest house. This is where you would prefer to wake up every day.
Be pampered and taste the most delicious and honest dishes from restaurant Pomponius. All ingredients come from their own woodland garden or from the surrounding area. Fancy some exercise? Help out in the vegetable garden, go exploring by sup or relax on the yoga deck. At Buitenhotel Terra Wolde, you really experience the rhythm of nature.
Honeyguide Anne-Floor was allowed to stay overnight in nature at this awesome accommodation and wrote a blog about it. Curious about her impressions? Then read her blog here.
2. Cuber Suites - Hoenderloo
Get ready for a special night out in the middle of the Veluwe. Cuber Suites is the place you want to escape to in order to completely unwind. Plop down on your fluffy king-size bed and gaze through the large windows at the pristine, pure nature. The picturesque view in unparalleled.
All Outdoor Suites are detached and equipped with all kinds of luxury and comfort. Feel the warmth of the fireplace on your terrace and watch the stars while showering. Some cottages even have a private hot tub or sauna.
Honeyguide Anne-Floor and Amanda got the chance to spend two nights here. Want to know more about Cuber Suites? Then click here.
3. Tralaluna - Drenthe
Happy, free and enjoyable. That is what Tralaluna likes to contribute to. Both on the road and during your stay. Take a road trip through Noord-Holland in a 1960s camper van or stay in a tiny house in a special place. All accommodation is unique and has its own story.
Honeyguide Adriënne was allowed to sleep in the Pioniershuisje on the edge of the Fruithof in Frederiksoord. Everything in this place tells a story: from the surroundings that were named a Unesco World Heritage Site last year to the furniture in the cottage itself. You can read Adriënne's adventures here.
We were also allowed to sleep in another Tralaluna tiny house. Honeyguide Yalou stayed in the Blueberry at nature campsite de Voscheheugte in Mantinge. A fine, quirky accommodation in nature with a special bathhouse. Read more about it in Yalou's blog here.
4. Nutchel - Belgian Ardennes & Alsace
Ready for a micro-adventure just over the border? Honeyguide Simone and Eliane had the chance to set off together in the Belgian Ardennes and French Alsace. Get away from the rushing society and spend the night in the middle of nature. Nutchel's sustainable accommodations make fairy tales come true.
On arrival in the Belgian Ardennes, the smell of wood and fire already meet you. The dark pine forest and the clouds of smoke from the stovepipes complete the picture. Simone and Eliane stayed in the Tree Trunk Hot Tub. A back-to-basic cabin among the trees, but with a hot tub on the roof.
In the French Alsace, the honeys slept in Up in the Air Canopy Cabin. This time without a hot tub, but with a hammock on the rooftop. Although the cabins are similar in both places, the setting is totally different. Curious? Then read Simone's blog here.
5. Warredal - Neeroeteren
We stay just over the border, because this hidden gem is also in Belgium. Hidden among the greenery of Neeroeteren lies Warredal. A nature reserve full of special overnight spots. From dreamy Hobbit cottages and cosy cabins to impressive tree houses. This is the ultimate in enjoyment.
All cottages on the 24-hectare site take you back to basics. They offer you optimal comfort, but without wifi. Splash in the hot tub or get warmed by the sauna. I'm sure this digital detox in nature will do you good.
Together with my dear Honeyguide colleagues, I was allowed to spend the night in the most beautiful tree house in Warredal, Tree House 3. It was a treat to be here. Are you curious about our experience? Then read more about this gem here.
6. Farm bed Kalverweide - Kallenkote
As the world slowly awakens, you see the morning dew over the farm landscape and you are warmly welcomed by the mooing cows and calves. Count on a special night out, because all tent houses at Boerenbed Kalverweide are in the middle of nature, on an authentic farm in Kallenkote.
All the amenities you really need can be found in the tent houses. Sleeping on the farm means connecting with nature and all the company around you. Switch off that phone for a moment and live in the here and now. Are you ready for some adventure? Ask to help the farmer or explore the many nature reserves in the area.
Honeyguide Marion and her boyfriend were allowed to stay at Boerenbed Kalverweide. Curious about her story and the beautiful photos? Then read her blog here.
7. De Kleine Wildenberg - Diepeveen
Close to the river IJsel and in the middle of the Salland scenic beauty. At De Kleine Wildenberg farm in Diepenveen, you can spend the night surrounded by nature. Look out over the neighbouring meadows with sheep and donkeys and admire the setting sun from the hot tub. Life is more than fine here.
De Kleine Wildenberg has five accommodations in total, including the Pipowagen and 't Kippenhok. Each of these unique spots will make your stay here even more enjoyable. Experience the beauty of the work on and around the farm or go out into the surrounding area. Deventer is within cycling distance and is the perfect base for a fun day out.
Honeyguide Ngoc slept in the fantastic vintage gypsy caravan. You can read her experience here.
8. Buitenhuys family - Venhuizen
Spend the night in the middle of Venhuizen's nature, chill out in your own (temporary) garden and bathe with a view. That is what an overnight stay at Family Buitenhuys well describes. Get ready for a nice stay during a weekend or workaction.
Owner Marielle has now designed and built four tiny houses. All with a lot of love and passion, which is reflected in the interior. Each tiny house is different and has its own personality. Cottage number 7, for instance, has a fantastic garden greenhouse and cottage number 9 a bath with magnificent wide views over the fields.
The Honeyguide team went on a three-day workaction at cottage number 9. It was the perfect place for new inspiration and, of course, relaxation. Read more about it here!
Hopefully you are inspired for a special night out in the Netherlands or just across the border. I am very curious to know which one is your favourite. Don't forget to share it with us? You can do so by using #heyhoneyguide on Instagram.
