The Netherlands now has many magical places where you can stay throughout the year. Even in winter. Think of cosy tiny houses in the woods with a warm wood-burning stove. But also colourful B&Bs and other winter-proof accommodations where nature surrounds you. I would love to show you my favourite places. Will you travel with me?
1. Dome Bipindi - Zandpol, Drenthe
Luxury camping in this forest house is a gift! From game nights to forest walks, this wooded area lends itself perfectly to this. The five dome-shaped cottages are located on the edge of Camping BuitenLand. Here you surround yourself in nature with the cosiness of all the whistling birds flying by.
It really is a treat to spend a weekend here with a group of six at BuitenLand Campsite. It is a kind of community you end up in because of all the activities that are organised. Each Dome Bipindi has two bedrooms. One of those rooms is under a large skylight. From your bed, you can therefore look directly at the starry sky above you. In addition, the Dome Bipindi cottages have a communal kitchen which lends itself to being the 'chefs-des-hues' together. BuitenLand harvests its own produce in the yard's vegetable garden and serves fresh pizzas from the stone oven on Fridays and Saturdays. Despite being a campsite, this is definitely winter-proof accommodation. On cold days, warm up by the brazier. Can you already see yourself sitting with a hot mulled wine in hand, watching the sunset from your veranda?
A fun fact: one of the Dome-builders was born in Bipindi (a place in Cameroon, Central Africa).
2. Coco's Buitenhuisje - Nunspeet, Gelderland
The Veluwe is a nature reserve in the Netherlands that I admire immensely. With over 864 kilometres of walking and cycling routes, it is the place to unwind. But why stop there? An overnight stay in the middle of this beautiful nature completes the experience. With admiration for all the picturesque tiny houses in the forest.
At Coco's Buitenhuisje, that peaceful feeling is only reinforced. As soon as you step inside, you immediately feel the warm and cosy atmosphere. The colourful interior of this woodland cottage is inspired by the Veluwe in autumn. They bring the outside in through the many windows in the cottage. Last but not least; you sleep in a queen-size loft bed, which is a nice experience in itself. When you wake up in the morning, make a delicious oat cappuccino at your very own espresso bar. Slide the garden door slightly ajar and plop down on the cognac-coloured sofa. This way you can enjoy the view of the garden and experience the cosy feeling in such a tiny house in the woods.

3. MORI - Nunspeet, Gelderland
I am only too happy to keep wandering around the Veluwe for a while longer. Speaking of winter-proof accommodation, MORI definitely belongs in this list. This cute little forest house is on Camping De Vossenberg in Nunspeet. They also call it a Wabi Sabi tiny house, which stands for modesty and sustainability. This tiny house in the middle of the forest has many details such as the minimalist artworks on the wall and the well-known coffee from the Coffee Boys. They are keen to support local entrepreneurs. And that includes a fireplace and a plunge pool. For the real go-getters, there's another outdoor shower. A perfect cottage for playing games and drinking a glass of (natural) wine. MORI can accommodate up to 4 people.
The surroundings consist mainly of lots of greenery. At 10 minutes' walk along an idyllic forest path you can skate on the Zandenplas, if the ice is thick enough. The Veluwe Lake and the cultural town of Elburg are also nearby. In this town there are about eight museums to visit, a harbour, lots of restaurants and boutiques.
4. B&B Het Bosstekje - Boekel, North Brabant
Owners Neeltje & Ferdy have created a romantic spot in their own yard. Het Bosstekje is located on a forest edge near Boekel. This cosy woodland cottage is always in for solo retreats or just a place to unwind. Boekel is close to Eindhoven and Den Bosch and is the perfect base for a city break.
The interior is a mix of modern and vintage items. After waking up, rinse off the night under the rain shower. Then enjoy the fresh breakfast provided by Neeltje & Ferdy. This way, you really do create a holiday feeling. A tip for a tasty local product: try the Berne abbey beer. One of the oldest abbeys in the Netherlands, where they also work with old recipes from tradition. And what makes it even more special is that the proceeds of the abbey beers directly contribute to the preservation of the abbey.
5. Tiny Hotel - Nistelrode, North Brabant
Leonne and Sander are happy to invite you to their countryside to spend a night at Tiny Hotel. This is one of those places where luxury and camping life go hand in hand. This winter-proof accommodation is in the middle of nature.
Besides two cabins, they also have three luxury holiday homes called; The Forest. This is where you will experience cosy winter nights and, with a bit of luck, hear an owl calling. Unwind in the on-site sauna. And that with a view of the, you guessed it, the forest! On arrival, a guidebook is waiting for you that lists all the owners' favourite hidden gems. From a delicatessen in Nistelrode to De Boshut in Schaijk.
6. Smûk Huske - Echtenerbrug, Friesland
Sleeping on a farm! In the former coach house the Smûk Huske, you sleep next to goats and chickens. The name Smûk comes from the Frisian language and means snug and cosy. This is exactly the description of the atmosphere in this cottage. There is a double bed on the mezzanine. From here, you look out onto the stylish sofa and a bunk bed on the ground floor.
In the country kitchen, you can easily spend hours cooking. Uncork the wine and enjoy the smoky smell of the fire outside. In the yard you will also find 'T Winkeltje with local products from the farm and surrounding glampings. Camping in our own little country is fun and especially with these lovely people in the North! As they say in Frisian; Oant gau!
7. Treelodge - Retie, Belgium
At Treelodge, you spend the night in the middle of nature in special, winter-proof accommodation. You probably used to build (in your experience ;)) the coolest tree houses. At Treelodge, they have made this childhood imagination real. You stay here in cosy and comfortable tree houses, where you decide how basic or luxurious you want it to be. For example, it is also possible to organise a winter barbecue or use the smoker.
At Treelodge you can choose between two luxury tree houses for a group of up to six people or two for up to four people. Each treehouse is unique, as Bram & Karen have designed and built everything themselves. The accommodations all have their own kitchen and bathroom with a lovely indoor and outdoor shower. Experiencing a night in a forest house like this will make you want to put it on your favourites list.
