Every church and monastery has its own story. And you can be part of it when you stay in one of these seven special overnight places. Experience the history of these unique churches and monasteries and stay overnight in a special building. Where do you say a prayer before bed?

1. Bed & Breakfast The little church of Etersheim - Etersheim 10, Oosthuizen

An overnight stay in the little church of Etersheim brings you relaxation and tranquillity. The church is in the middle of several walking and cycling routes in Laag Holland. A hiking fanatic like me naturally loves this. All the more so because world heritage site De Beemster is close to this special bed and breakfast. And the little church has a beautiful view of an old polder mill. Now that's a nice way to wake up.

Honeyguide Laura recently wrote a blog full of places to stay just outside Amsterdam. Apart from this church, it mentions a number of other beautiful accommodations in Laag Holland where you can spend the night.

2. Hotel de Soete Moeder - Nemiusstraat 4, 's-Hertogenbosch

If you like both nature and city life, this convent hotel is the right place for you. Hotel de Soete Moeder is located in the middle of nature, but you can also step straight into Den Bosch. With her sustainable, social enterprise, the founder has taken over the nuns' social and societal tasks, so to speak. Young people get the chance to learn and gain work experience here. Breakfast at this unique spot is also a tasty treat. Made from fresh, organic and local produce.

3. Bed & Breakfast The Church - Van der Molenplein 1, Doorwerth

Even though it used to be a large Catholic church, Bed & Breakfast De Kerk now has a cosy atmosphere where you can spend the night. The cool thing is that many of the original details have been preserved. For example, in the morning you have breakfast on the old church pews. By the way, this is another great spot for walking and cycling in nature. The Veluwe is just around the corner.

4. Monastery Breda - Schorsmolenstraat 13, Breda

Sleep in one of the old friars' lodgings of this special monastery in Breda. Start your day off right with a walk through the monumental garden. This special place has so many cool things to offer. For instance, they help people reintegrate into the labour market. There is a sewing workshop where cool second-hand bags are given a new lease of life. And you can enjoy a delicious homemade apple pie. Honeyguide Laura already went there to visit. You can read her experience in this blog.

5. Bed & Breakfast De Petrakerk - Korte Voorhouterweg 2c, Rijnsburg

Owners Reine and Huibert welcome you with open arms in this original Bed & Breakfast De Petrakerk. Many old details have been preserved. You can spend the night in the room with the chimes or the room with the old pulpit. Wash your hands in the original pews. These details make spending the night in this church really special. And a tip for the cyclists among us: De Petrakerk is in the middle of the bulb region, great for during the tulip season.

6. Holiday home De Kraak van Van Dam - Terp 12, Oosterbierum

Planning a family overnight stay? Or a weekend away with your friends? This unique spot in Friesland is truly an eye-catcher. Inside and out. While playing billiards, you look straight at the old organ. And the original pulpit has also been preserved. Holiday home De Kraak van Van Van Dam is a great holiday home if you are looking for a special stay.

7. Hotel Mariënhage - Kanaalstraat 4, Eindhoven

At Hotel Mariënhage in Eindhoven, you spend the night in an old monastery that has been given a new look. The authentic atmosphere of yesteryear has been mixed with new designs. A constant old thread runs through the luxury rooms, which is very cool. Like in the themed room with the forbidden fruit from paradise. Spend the night at this special hotel and you will be amazed at the kind of places you come across.

So, with these tips, you know where you can spend a special night in an old church or monastery. Would you like to spend the night in a unique place more often? Then check out this blog with tips for unique accommodation in nature.
