Are you looking for a special overnight stay in the Netherlands? North Holland has everything that makes our little chilly country so charming. Vast bulb fields, picturesque fishing villages, historic windmills and vast beaches. And of course, the famous Dutch cheese! One day is far too short to explore everything, so I have listed seven of the nicest B&Bs (or bed and breakfasts) in North Holland for you. These unique stays each have their own story and atmosphere, making your stay an adventure in itself. Dive into this list and discover your next favourite place to sleep!
1. Boutique hotel Jongwijs Westzaan - Travel inspiration from our partner
Although this atmospheric hotel in North Holland is not really a B&B, I certainly don't want to withhold it from you. Have you ever dreamed of staying in a historic building from 1678 with a touch of luxury? Then Boutique Hotel Jongwijs in Westzaan is just what you're looking for. Jongwijs is located above a cosy restaurant and an artisan bakery, so you still roll right out of bed for a delicious breakfast or more.
In total, there are three unique rooms where the atmosphere of the National Monument has been preserved. For example, 'The Goedjaarhuis' has a beautiful view over the meadows. The Blue Studio' has a loft overlooking the green picnic garden and meadows. And 'Het Bonte Bovenhuis' retains the charm of the monumental building with its exposed wooden beams.
2. Buitenhuys family in Venhuizen
For those who don't yet know: sleeping at Family Buitenhuys is a true celebration! The two self-designed cottages in Venhuizen are anything but standard holiday homes. Mariëlle, the creative mastermind behind these gems, has decorated each cottage with love and an eye for detail. From decks made of old calf grates to door handles made of wooden wool coils and a baker's stool reused as a kitchen - everything gets a second life at her place and contributes to the unique atmosphere.
At these cottages, you enjoy a beautiful view over the fields and the dike. Cottage 9 has two bedrooms and a garden with an outdoor oven, slide, swing and children's tiara. Cottage 7 has a special garden greenhouse where you count stars at night and also has a tepee and trampoline in the garden.
3. Groenlokaal in Alkmaar
At Groenlokaal, everything revolves around atmosphere, comfort and enjoyment. This family-run business combines their love of cooking with a passion for green. In the cosy lunchroom, you are surrounded by plants and comfortable seating. It is a place where you immediately feel at home.
On top of the authentic building in the heart of Alkmaar, you will find a B&B with its own roof terrace. In the morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast on request. Naturally served with the same love you taste in the lunchroom.
4. Fun! Sleeping in Den Oever
As soon as you step through the yellow door, you are welcomed by a house that mixes the nostalgia of the past with the luxurious comfort of today. B&B Leuk! Sleeping in North Holland has two special bird rooms to sleep in: the House Sparrow and the Blue Tit. Both give you stunning views over the rolling Wieringer landscape.
The garden is a lovely place to be. Listen to the happy house sparrows and tits fluttering through the garden or discover where chef Hans gets his fresh ingredients from. His vegetable garden and chicken coop provide fresh eggs and vegetables. Straight from the land to your plate.
5. Het Bos Roept! in Slootdorp
At nature campsite Het Bos Roept! in Slootdorp, you will experience nature in a whole new way. Here, Gidus and Sasja have created a special place where sustainability, style and creativity come together. Not a standard B&B, but an area in North Holland where, with thirty spacious camping sites and unique accommodation, you will always find an ideal place to stay.
This campsite is packed with extras for an unforgettable stay. Start your day with a fresh organic breakfast, taste the delicious dishes at the Foodtruck on Friday evening or snuggle up by the stove in the greenhouse. For ultimate relaxation, join a yoga session in the 'time-for-yourself tent'.
6. Luttik in Alkmaar
At Luttik you immediately feel that you are in a special place. This pearl in Alkmaar is not a bed and breakfast, but actually a boutique hotel. They have six bright and spacious rooms where every night feels like a luxury experience, but with a personal touch. Everything you see and use is for sale. From the lamps and crockery to the bed linen and furniture. Here you can literally stay in style and shop at the same time!
But Luttik is more than just a place to sleep. In the Coffeebar you can enjoy the most delicious coffees with sweet or savoury delicacies and in the concept store you can score the most beautiful items. Have breakfast any way you like: extensive, quick, or not at all. Choose whether you want to have breakfast in your room in a charming picnic basket or rather eat it outside by the canal.
7. Bed in Broek in Broek in Waterland
Just 10 kilometres from Amsterdam, in the middle of picturesque Broek in Waterland, lies Bed in Broek. This B&B in North Holland is surrounded by the historic beauty of 16th- and 17th-century wooden houses and atmospheric streets. Truly a place to completely unwind.
Every morning you compose your own breakfast, lovingly prepared by the hospitable owners Klaas and Mariana. They use as many local products as possible, including their homemade granola and jam. Here they know how to pamper guests.
