Breda, also called the Pearl of the South, surprises you with its hospitable atmosphere, cosy streets and nice places. During a visit to Breda, you will discover the versatility of this Burgundian city bursting with cosy coffee bars, colourful lunches and cosy cafés.
Yes, I can recommend a visit to Breda to everyone. Here is burgundy enjoyment pur sang. To make sure you know where to find all these nice restaurants during a day out in Breda, I hereby share my favourite restaurants with you.
1. Coffee bar Sowieso - Nieuwstraat 46
At Koffiebar Sowieso, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee made from home-roasted coffee beans. Fancy something sweet with your coffee? Then order a delicious breakfast, a tasty lunch or a fresh cake. Everything is made from natural and local ingredients and most dishes are vegan, by the way.
Just relax between shopping, open your laptop for some work or quietly read a book, Coffee Bar Sowieso is always a nice place to be. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is friendly and you can enjoy the sun outside in the city garden. What more could you want?
2. Restaurant PuiCk - Veemarktstraat 56
During lunch in this unique lunch spot, you find yourself in a green oasis of all kinds of indoor plants. Enjoyment and experience, that's what Puick is all about. And this is reflected in all the dishes served here. The food on the menu comes from different countries and continents. Enough choice to tickle your taste buds.
Puick deliberately makes sure there are both small and large dishes on the menu so that you can taste several dishes during your visit. Fancy a nice long lunch? Then go for the "slow lunch" where you can choose from different dishes and surprise menus.
Puick aims to make its dishes itself as much as possible with ingredients from local entrepreneurs. For example, the Lebanese flatbread comes from the Moroccan bakery around the corner and all dressings are homemade.
3. Coffee bar Brandpunt - Heronstraat 16
Close to Breda's cosy Grote Markt, you will find meeting place and coffee bar Brandpunt. This creative hotspot is a dynamic mix of coffee, shop and creativity.
From time to time, you will find exhibitions with which Brandpunt wants to offer young artists a stage. In addition, Brandpunt has its own shop where you will find all kinds of unique products, all with a social or ecological story. Many of these products are made in-house in the accompanying laser lab. So it is much more than just a nice restaurant in the centre of Breda. Finally, you can of course get a nice cup of fair and sustainable tea or coffee at Brandpunt. Or plop down for a delicious vegan lunch.
4. Restaurant JanenAlleman - Sint Janstraat 22
Looking for a nice place for lunch? Then JanenAlleman is the place to be. This fun restaurant in the centre of Breda serves delicious dishes, a good cup of coffee and different kinds of cake. The interior is composed of second-hand items as much as possible, giving the restaurant a vintage look.
What makes JanenAlleman extra special is that the restaurant offers a nice workplace for young adults with a mental disability where they can learn what it is like to work in the hospitality industry. So a nice, positive place in the heart of Breda.
5. Bon Appetit ice cream parlour - Flax bag 2 A3
A stone's throw from the Grote Markt, you will find the Bon Appetit ice cream parlour. Here they sell - brace yourself - the tastiest ice cream in the Netherlands. So it is not really a restaurant but a place to cool down during one of Breda's sultry summer evenings. Bon Appetit was voted the best ice cream parlour in the Netherlands. All the ice cream is homemade and you can taste it immediately. Moreover, you will find the most unique flavours here. Always wanted to try a scoop of Liefmans ice cream? At Bon Appetit, you have come to the right place.
Besides ice cream, you can also come here for other surprising delicacies such as apple-cinnamon spring rolls or ice-cream pastries. The ice cream parlour is relaxed all year round and in summer you can sit down in one of the lounge sets in front of the door. During a visit to Breda, you simply cannot miss Bon Appetit ice cream parlour in my opinion.
6. Boutique A cup of cake - St. Janstraat 6
A Cup of Cake is a cheerful cupcake boutique where you will find Breda's tastiest cupcakes. Once your eyes get used to the pink interior, the most delicious cakes, muffins and brownies smile at you through the display case. All delicacies are made from natural and honest products. In doing so, A Cup of Cake is making an important contribution to a better world.
The delicacies in the boutique can also be ordered in advance, so get some inspiration before you leave home. Can't wait and want to eat your cupcake right away? In the boutique and on the mini terrace you can enjoy the home-made treats from the boutique. Tip: you can also come here for one of the lavish high teas.
As I said; when it comes to burgundy enjoyment, there is a lot to experience in Breda. Hopefully I have been able to inspire you with nice restaurants, coffee shops and lunch hotspots to tickle your taste buds during your next visit to Breda.
