Do you want to be completely offline and enjoy peace and quiet? Spending the night in the forest or in nature takes you far away from crowds and screens. In this blog, I share with you 6 nature cottages that are perfect for a real digital detox. Cosy lodges, floating cabins and atmospheric forest cottages where you can get back to yourself. Breathe in the fresh air, listen to the birds and experience how wonderful it is to unwind. And all this in the middle of nature.
1. Spend the night in the Blue Owl - Twente, Overijssel
Escape from all stimuli in De Bosuil, the charming tiny house of Landgoed de Holtweijde. This romantic hide-away is located 300 metres from the hotel. In the middle of a private forest plot of about three hectares. Overlooking the Twente countryside, this is the place for a real digital detox. In the Bosuil, you will find no WiFi, television or radio and that is deliberate. Here everything is about peace, nature and time together. Inside is a comfortable king-size bed with a spacious shower. Outside on the terrace, you can enjoy the outdoor stove while looking out over the silence. The stay can be booked with breakfast. In the morning, a delicious French breakfast will then be brought to your door. With fresh orange juice and a bottle of champagne. It is the perfect setting for anyone who wants to spend the night surrounded by nature.
2. Spend the night in Onder de Radar - The Veluwe, Gelderland
Stay under the Radar is an architectural gem at Buitenplaats Koningsweg. It is a stone's throw from De Hoge Veluwe National Park. The house is inspired by stealth technology and resembles the iconic Night Hawk aircraft. The cottage has a matte-black, angular shape and hides in the forest. From your bed, you look straight up at the treetops and the starry sky. In the morning, you wake up to the light of the sunrise. The interior is sleek and thoughtful, with a spacious kitchen, and comfortable seating area. Surrounding the house is a terrace with sliding doors. My favourite aspect is the outdoor shower. In the middle of the forest, with no walls around you, you experience showering as a pure, natural experience. This stay is ideal for those who really want to disappear "under the radar" for a while.
3. Spend the night in tree house Hutstuf The Eagle - La Roche-en-Ardenne, Belgium
Hidden between the majestic trees near La Roche-en-Ardenne, you will find Hutstuf The Eagle. This unique nature cottage is perfect for anyone who wants to spend the night in nature. The accommodation offers a private sauna, an outdoor shower and a covered terrace overlooking the river. This allows you to fully recharge far away from the hustle and bustle. The special wooden 'tent bed' high among the branches invites you to relax under the stars. It is a special sleeping spot that combines the feel of a treehouse with cosy shelter. Inside, there is a spacious, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable seating area and central heating. All in perfect harmony with the surroundings. Ideal for anyone who wants to spend the night in the forest and enjoy the peace and quiet, bird sounds and architecture.
4. Spend the night in a Cabiner cabin on the water - Zeewolde, Flevoland
For an adventurous digital detox, the floating Cabiner cabin in Horsterwold is perfect. This cabin is located in the "Silent Core". This is a remote piece of forest with no paths. Here you also have hardly any phone coverage. After a walk of a few kilometres you reach the shore. Here a canoe is waiting to take you to the cabin. Once you arrive, the cabin floats on the water. You have your own peaceful island feel. Inside, you make your own fire in the wood-burning stove for warmth and for cooking. But at Cabiner, you also get to do your own cooking. Do you want drinking water? Then you'll have to pump it yourself. And the electricity you have comes from solar panels. So you really live off-grid and get down to what really matters. Silence, nature and yourself.
A tip from me: for an adventurous overnight stay in the middle of nature, check out Cabiner in Horsterwold.
5. Spending the night in Boskot - North Kempen, Belgium
Boskot is a warm, atmospheric nature cottage. It is located in the peaceful De Liereman nature reserve, in the Noorderkempen near Oud-Turnhout. Here you can spend the night in the woods and are surrounded by forests, fens, heath and dunes. An ideal place for a quiet digital detox. The house offers space for four to five people. It also has a living area with large windows that bring in the view of the greenery. There are two bedrooms, a cosy sitting area with wood-burning stove, and a kitchen with all amenities. Outside, the spacious terrace invites you to relax and unwind. Boskot is the perfect base to spend the night in nature.
A tip from me: hike the surrounding trails in nature reserve De Liereman and discover hidden fens and heathlands.
6. Spend the night in Tree House 1 of Bed and Woodland Cottages - Oisterwijk, North Brabant
My favourite spot for a digital detox? Treehouse 1 of Bed and Woodland Cottages is located in the wooded area around Oisterwijk. This nature cottage has two bedrooms. It also has a compact but well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with rain shower. The private terrace has a luxurious hot tub. Here you can relax under the trees in the evening. The wooden walls create a cosy, natural atmosphere. Inside, sheepskin chairs and soft lighting invite you to relax. This tree house is perfect if you want to spend the night in the woods.
You may already have noticed: spending the night in the woods is a good way to do a digital detox. These special places allow you to slow down. Listen to birdsong and discover what it's like to really spend the night in nature.... It's the perfect way to recharge. To consciously experience the environment and come back with new energy.

Megan
Yes, most stays are focused on rest and relaxation, with limited or no wifi to help you go completely offline. Some locations deliberately have no wifi or television (such as De Bosuil), while other accommodations have limited coverage, so you can choose how much you want to be offline.
Bring comfortable clothes, walking shoes and possibly a book, game or notebook. Floating cabins like Cabiner sometimes require you to pump water or light wood yourself, so practical gear and preparation are handy. Some accommodation offers breakfast or facilities to cook your own meals.
Yes, many of the nature cottages have several bedrooms and space for families or small groups. For example, Boskot in Belgium offers space for 4-5 people, and Boomhuis 1 in Oisterwijk has two bedrooms.
