The holidays are approaching and fortunately the shops are allowed to open their doors. So - with the right measures - we can support our local entrepreneurs. In this blog, I take you to the five nicest shopping cities in the Netherlands. Here you can shop consciously and shop carefree for the holidays. By the way, did you already know that all entrepreneurs featured on Honeyguide meet at least one of our sustainable goals? Quickly discover which ones and shop around!
1. Historic Haarlem - Shopping mecca close to the sea
Voted best shopping city in the Netherlands several times. And not for nothing did we discover! Haarlem is a beautiful city with a lovely old centre where you can enjoy shopping. Our tip: stroll through the side streets, because that is where you will find the special boutiques. That way, you will come home with a unique item!
Lunchtip: DeDakkas, with stunning views over Haarlem, great food at a place with a sustainable character.
2. Shopping in Utrecht - Contemporary, creative and inspiring
Utrecht has a large city centre, where you will find fine shops everywhere. The centre of Utrecht is divided into zones, each with its own charm. Read more about it in this destination guide. Utrecht has lots of great boutiques with perhaps even more terraces, beautiful historical buildings and canals! Honeyguide Cathe wrote a blog full of tips for a day of (shopping) in Utrecht.
3. Magical Maastricht - The capital of the South
Maastricht is the shopping city of the South! Imagine yourself on holiday in your own country. This city has Belgian allure and is known as a shopping city. Maastricht has an enormous variety of shops. The very best are to be found near the Stokstaartkwartier, Wycker Brugstraat, Rechtestraat and Hoofbrugstraat. Don't miss Vrijthof for a break between shopping.
4. Energetic Eindhoven - Go shopping in
You might not expect it, but Eindhoven is a real shopping city. If you are in Eindhoven, you really must visit Good Day Concept Store! Also take a look at the Emmasingel and find cute little shops at De Bergen. A walk to Strijp-S is also highly recommended, where you will find a surprising district full of small-scale initiatives.
5. Zutphen - monumental
Have you ever thought of Zutphen for a day of shopping? This small town full of historic buildings, courtyards where time has stood still, narrow shopping streets and plenty of culture is highly recommended for a day out. Honeyguide Simone already put it to the test and wrote this blog full of tips for a sustainable city break in Zutphen, including her favourite shopping spots.
Lunchtip: Sultani, enjoy (vegan) Moroccan delicacies here.
