5x favourite neighbourhoods in Tilburg

A real hidden pearl in Tilburg is the wandering area. This area comprises all the narrow and long streets between the main shopping streets in the city centre. You can wander around here and forget about time. In these streets, you will mainly find industrial, creative, atmospheric and up-and-coming businesses worth visiting.

One of the nice places is Mr.Morris, where you can enjoy the tastiest juices, coffee, breakfast and lunch. Another special place in the Wandering Area is Restaurant Waanzinnig. This catering establishment is run by people with psychiatric vulnerability under the guidance of learning-work coaches and experienced catering staff.

If you fancy a healthy takeaway, FoodAtelier is the place to be. FoodAtelier is a vegetarian / vegan takeaway shop with ready-to-eat dishes.

Piushaven is the city harbour of Tilburg and North Brabant with various events and cosy terraces. On summer days, it buzzes with people and boats can be admired. In Piushaven, you can enjoy a nice walk, shop and relax by the water.

Looking for a budget-proof shop where it's cosy? La Poubelle is a thrift shop in Tilburg and also a well-known concept among Tilburg residents. You will find almost everything here, from furniture to toys, with each product having a history or story.

A real meeting place in Piushaven, is Pastorie Lokaal. The company is committed to producing honestly, locally and sustainably. And whether you're looking for a nice jumper, cute earrings or Delft blue pottery, Pastorie Lokaal has it! A few metres away on the Piushaven is Villa La Vida. A place where you can sleep, eat and sail! Here you experience hospitality and cosiness in Tilburg.

A new emerging area with a diversity of old and new buildings, activities and a nice atmosphere is also called the Spoorzone! The rich past of the Spoorzone combined with its beautiful surroundings and events make for a new area with lots to do.

From way back, the Spoorzone is known for its trains and locomotives. Despite the emergence of new entrepreneurs and the development of the area, the district retains its characteristics of yesteryear. The perfect coffee spot in the Spoorzone is Stoom 013. A cosy little joint where you can enjoy organic and local produce.

Another special place in the area is Spoorpark Tilburg. The park is located in the middle of the city, near Central Station. The name gives it away a bit, as the park is right next to the railway line. You can have a nice walk, picnic, maybe play a game of basketball and even spend the night at the City Camping here!

The combination of city and nature is not often seen together. Tilburg is home to Stadsbos013, created for and by Tilburgers. This is one of my favourite places in the whole city, where I spend many idle hours. There are 5 different walking routes in the Stadsbos, each with its own character. Among them are walking routes for families, routes with architecture and with rich history as in the Heidepark route. Besides the routes, you can enjoy peace and quiet, the ponds and pools and various animal species.

The Veemarktkwartier is described as an attractive area full of special and colourful buildings where entrepreneurship, art, culture, theatre and music take centre stage. Music and theatre are mainly found in Poppodium 013, the largest pop podium in the Netherlands.

The agenda mainly includes concerts, events and festivals. I like going to the concerts myself because 013 is small-scale and that makes the performances very intimate.

Another place of interest in the Veemarktkwartier is Tilburg's oldest textile factory, Het Duvelhok. It is an extraordinary national monument that adorns Tilburg with many themes inside. In the Veemarktkwartier, you can walk around for hours, wandering past the characteristic buildings; it is definitely worth a visit!
