Dining out and giving something back to the world in the meantime? Think restaurants with circular catering, socially responsible stories and eateries with their own vegetable garden. These are my tips for the tastiest, conscious and green restaurants in Amersfoort.

1. DLC Restaurant - Soesterweg 332, Amersfoort

One of my absolute favourites in Amersfoort is DLC. If one of these restaurants makes a difference, it is this one. At DLC Restaurant, they take you into the story of the essence of food. You notice it immediately when you enter the restaurant, because you are literally in a greenhouse.

What is special is that despite being in a greenhouse, the atmosphere is warm thanks to the second-hand furniture, lovingly refurbished by people with disabilities. At DLC, they work as much as possible with fresh ingredients from their own vegetable garden or local produce from local farmers. Last but not least, the food there is really good. Pure flavours, without frills.

How they make a difference:

  • Recycled materials
  • Social cooperation with a local care organisation
  • Fruit and vegetables from our own vegetable garden and our own chicken run
  • Fair local ingredients from suppliers affiliated to local initiatives such as Puur Dichtbij and Boerenhart (attention to environment, nature and animal welfare)
  • DLC Restaurant Amersfoort

2. Blur your life - Mooierstraat 18, Amersfoort

In the city centre you will find this unique concept store with café. At BLUR, they believe that everything has a story and that everything you do, buy and eat makes memories. The message: be conscious of your choices. That's why BLUR is a place for products that want to do good and all contribute in their own way to a better world.

From fairly produced clothes, recycled coasters, vegan accessories or cheese from the local farmer. At the Blur café, you can sit down for an all-day-breakfast (my favourite), brunch or lunch and you certainly won't be short of sweets.

How they make a difference:

  • Fairly produced clothing
  • Recycled products
  • Veggie and vegan friendly
  • Regional products
  • Contributing to awareness

3. Bindicafe - Bergstraat 6, Amersfoort

Bindicafe is a cosy, vegan restaurant in Amersfoort. It is a cosy living room restaurant where you can grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy the whole evening. The menu changes monthly to work with as much organic, seasonal and local produce as possible. Vegan and organic food goes hand in hand with affordability here.

How they make a difference:

  • 100% plant-based food
  • organic regional products

4. SEM Lettuce and More - Kortegracht 6, Amersfoort

Healthy is delicious! This cute lunchroom proves that time and again. Think richly filled fresh salads (gosh), sugar-free not-so-guilty pleasure cakes and power juices full of vitamins. SEM uses organic local produce as much as possible and guarantees that their meat, dairy, grains and eggs are always organic. You also contribute with your drinks because coffee, tea and water have the fair trade label at SEM. For the ingredients in the salads, they take inspiration from the seasons, which means the menu here changes four times a year.

How they make a difference:

  • Organic as much as possible
  • Fairtrade hallmark
  • Seasonal and regional products
  • No plastic (!) only packaging materials made from the corn plant
  • SEM Sla en Meer Amersfoort
  • SEM Sla en Meer Amersfoort

Want to do your bit too? Then choose a restaurant or lunchroom that tries to make a difference. Pay attention, for instance, to the use of organic products, a ban on single-use plastics or even seasonal and local ingredients. But in principle, you can already make conscious choices in any restaurant: say no to a plastic straw or coffee cup lid, for example. The world will thank you.

With love,
Amanda
