The Little School of Dik Trom

History

About this hidden gem

A children's book museum in Etersheim, North Holland, which used to be a school with one classroom.

Why you really want to visit this place

The children's books of Dik Trom, who doesn't know them? From 1883 to 1902, C. Joh. Kieviet was a teacher at the one-class school here in Etersheim. He also lived next door in the teacher's house, where he wrote his first Dik Trom book in 1891. Today, the old classroom has been fully restored and now serves as a museum. The classroom is furnished with the old school desks, a pot-bellied stove, nostalgic blackboards and clogs under the coat rack, taking you back to the old days.

Honeyguides Yalou and Femke visited the school during their Kijk-Luister walk across the dike.
