A mysterious, mangrove-like forest that has been (re)designed as a water storage area, meant to store water when there is too much precipitation. You find it when you follow a plank path between metres-high rustling reeds in the farmlands near Schalkwijk.

Why you really want to visit this place
A real hidden pearl therefore, near the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. When you have followed the reeds, a pool with broken-off tops of trees unfolds before your eyes. A decking path has been laid across it, so you can walk over water here, as it were. The trees that were originally there could not withstand the high water level, so they died off. Over time, the stumps of the trees are getting shorter and shorter, so in a few years there will only be a puddle left here. So if you still want to enjoy the Drowned Forest, don't wait too long.
